Run the Table
Draft real players from spun franchise eras. Your roster sets your record, playoffs included.
How to play Run the Table
Run the Table is a daily sports draft built on real data: NBA from hoopR by sportsdataverse, NFL from nflverse and international soccer squads from openfootball. Each round spins a franchise and era (in soccer, a nation at one tournament). Draft one player from that depth chart into an open slot. When your roster is full, your record compares it to the best roster your spins allowed, playoff run included. No dice rolls: the same roster always gets the same record.
- Choose a sport and roster size: NBA Starting Five (PG, SG, SF, PF, C) or Full Roster (plus a five-player bench); NFL Full Team (six on offense, then six on defense, with flex spots) or Offense Only (six picks); soccer Full XI in the formation you pick, or Attack Only.
- Pick your settings: Stats shown (key season stats while you draft) or Knowledge only, schemes on or off, and Salary Cap for NBA and NFL. In Salary Cap every card shows that season's real salary as a share of that year's cap, in today's dollars, and you draft under a budget (NBA five $140M, Full Roster $200M, NFL Full Team $140M, NFL Offense Only $80M). NFL Salary Cap uses 2013–2025 seasons only, NBA Salary Cap skips 2024-25 (no salary data), and players without a salary in the data are left out of Salary Cap only.
- Each round spins a franchise and era. You see that depth chart ranked by playing time. A run never spins the same team twice with overlapping seasons.
- Pick one player and put him in any open slot he's eligible for. Players listed at more than one position can fill any matching slot. NBA and soccer get one new-team and one new-era reroll; the NFL gets one reroll for the offense and one for the defense.
- When every slot is filled, your team strength sets your regular season, and good teams then win playoff games one at a time until their first loss.
Scoring
Every player-season has a hidden rating from his standing among qualified players at his position in his era. Team strength is the position-weighted average of your picks (NFL quarterbacks, edge rushers and cornerbacks count extra; NBA bench players count half; soccer goalkeepers count extra). Points are the weighted total, and they break ties on every leaderboard. With schemes on, scheme fit moves team strength by up to 5% either way. The results screen shows each pick's rating and contribution, your weakest link and how close you came to the next grade.
Tips
- Fill the scarce positions early, because later spins may not have anyone who fits.
- Save your rerolls for a spin with nobody useful for your open slots.
- In NFL drafts, flex spots are your safety net: fill the fixed positions first.
- In Salary Cap, watch the per-slot allowance: one star is fine if the rest of the budget can still buy starters.
FAQ
- Are the players in Run the Table real?
- Yes. NBA depth charts come from hoopR NBA data by sportsdataverse (1993-94 to 2025-26), NFL depth charts from nflverse (1999 to 2025) and soccer squads from openfootball's World Cup, Euro and Copa América lists.
- Is there any luck in the result?
- No. Your record compares your roster with the best one your spins allowed, so the same roster always gets the same record and a stronger roster never does worse. Points stay the plain total, so they rank runs on the same board.
- Does everyone get the same spins?
- Yes, for the same day and the same settings. Each setting combination has its own spins, so a Knowledge only board never matches the Stats shown board.
- Is a perfect season possible?
- Yes. On every board, daily or free play, the best possible roster goes undefeated with room to spare, but only a few drafts get there.
- Can I see player ratings?
- Not while you draft. With Stats shown you see key season stats from the data files; ratings and each pick's contribution appear on the results screen.
- What are challenge links and free play?
- After a run you can send a challenge link: anyone who opens it gets your exact spins, one try each, and the two rosters are compared side by side. Free play gives unlimited runs, each with fresh spins, plus personal bests on your profile. Neither counts toward the daily, streaks or the daily leaderboard.
- Is Run the Table affiliated with any league?
- No. TrophyStreak is not affiliated with or endorsed by any league, team or players association.
